A toddler ate my baby

How else can one possibly explain this discrepancy???

Easter 2012 seems like it was last month. Our little baby has grown so much in one year. Sniff sniff.

She didn't quite grasp the concept of the egg "hunt." She found her first two eggs, and then just held onto them and wandered around. She also loved carrying her baskets (which when she says the word, comes out more like "baguette." Is she taking French lessons at day care???)

Emerson 14 Month Update

Let's talk about something pleasant that doesn't involve house hunting. (In case you were wondering, we've been outbid on one house and were 24 hours late in putting in an offer on another house, so..... yeah. Things are progressing slowly.)

Let's talk about Emerson!!!!

Hurricane E in action

Weight: 19.5 lbs

Height: Probably the same as last month. You try getting a toddler to lie still for measurements.

Sleep: Still wonderful. Pretty consistent from 7pm to 7am. She wakes up sometimes around 10:00pm in a panic because she can't find her baby, so she'll roll around distraught until she finds her and it's back to sleep. Still falls asleep with her fingers in her mouth. I'll try not to be nervous about that just yet.

Vocabulary: She's now up to 50 words! Not that I count, or keep a running tally on my phone or anything. Favorite words that have been added this month include book, piggie, potty and turtle.

Sentence of the month: "Up please!" She'll say up 3 times, and if you dare not to pick her up after that third request in a row, she will say up please until her needs are met.

Runner-up: "Hi Baby!" when she sees her "baby" for the first time in awhile, aka an hour or more. She has more love for that darn thing (which we now own 4 of) than anything in the world. And I just saw that they no longer carry the correct version of her baby and I am breaking into a cold sweat. Running to check eBay.

Fashion sense: Awesome. Obviously.

Temperament: Easy. So easy. So happy. So fun. I am extremely grateful my stress level as of late has not been projected onto her. Though we get glimpses of her being a toddler (i.e. when she doesn't get her way) she'll fuss and protest momentarily, and then will rebound 10 seconds later. Just like her mom ;-)

This is also why I am convinced that this new baby will be the most high-maintenance (yet adorable) baby ever. No one gets lucky enough to have two easy kiddos. No one.

Favorite Book:  Perfect Piggies! by Sandra Boynton. See new words added above.

Favorite Foods: Crackers. Good gracious that girl loves her crackers. And she doesn't discriminate. Ritz. Goldfish. Graham. Saltine. She loves them all. Still won't really eat meat, but eats a good variety of foods. She also has started loving peanut butter.

Her typical lunch

Favorite new hangout spot: COSI. Now that she can walk/run, girlfriend is just on the go! We took her to COSI a few weekends ago, and she had a blast! I love watching her interact with the world. Everything is exciting to a toddler. Everything.

Tolerance for cuddling: High. She loves it. Holding on to that for as long as I can.

Mom's Final Thoughts: Still think she's one of the greatest examples that I've done okay in life. Though I'm getting more and more tired, and huge, and running out of energy, I am trying to savor these last few weeks with her as my only "baby."

A yawn and a haircut

 Hey ya'll, hey.

What a weekend.

Another 6 showings (one with a 20 minute notice- whiskey tango foxtrot?!?) and 3 more scheduled for today and tomorrow. I'm tired.

Still no offers. Wah.

But we are getting really good at finding creative things to do with our time when we have to be out of the house for 1 hour increments. Antique shopping. Going to brunch. Driving around aimlessly while contemplating just setting the whole damn thing on fire.

If we're friends on Instagram, you may have noticed that I came to terms with my poor parenting on Friday night.

Check out that mullet!!! In my quest to preserve any and all baby-ness, I have neglected to get Emerson a haircut. But I finally accepted that it was time, so off to Cookie Cutters we went!

The Before:
Bye bye, mullet/mowhawk
I was nervous that she would lose her mind, because I swear every single child in there was crying. But my angel was SUCH a trooper and did so good! They even had a spare comb for her to chew on, which definitely helped distract her long enough to get the job done.

During:

And the after.... tada!!!

They gave her little clips for her hair because she was such a big girl! :) Didn't you know pixie cuts were all the range in baby fashion??

I hope you all had a great weekend - fingers crossed  that 18 is our lucky number!

Emerson's 13 Month Update

Emerson, 13 months

Weight: 19 lbs (skinny Minnie!)

Height: 30 inches

Clothing: Mostly 12 month, occasionally 18 month pants and 9 month shirts.

Sleep: Still 12-13 hours a night, and 1-2 naps per day. No complaints from mama!

Disposition: Happy 99.5% of the day :)

Vocabulary: Up to 27 words now! Favorites are "Mama" and "No." New ones are Bowl, Whoa, and Waffle (which sounds more like Wa-Wa, but at least she knows what it means?)

Mode of transportation: As of this week, has completely given up crawling and is now walking everywhere. Still hates to fall down.

Favorite Toys: Her "Choo Choo" and Tupperware

Favorite Distraction: Disney Junior

Favorite App: The free piano one on my Kindle Fire. She's basically Beethoven on that thing.

Favorite thing on the planet: Her "baby" (See below). She has 4 of them, but we only give her one so that we can wash the others and stash them in covert places.

Status: Still one of the greatest babies ever in the history of babies (biased much?)

The One with The Cake

As promised (because I know you were all DYING to see them) here are some pictures from Emerson's "Winter Ballerina" first birthday party this weekend.

Spoiler alert: Emerson HATED her birthday cake. I blame this on me giving up sugar while nursing her. I'm sorry sweetheart!

All of these pictures were taken by the lovely and talented godmother of my baby, Holly!
